VREA joins Virginians for Reproductive Justice
October 9th-- Today, Virginians for Reproductive Freedom (VRF) announced our intention to engage in a multi-year effort to amend the Virginia Constitution to include broad protections for Reproductive Freedom.
Press Release: Youngkin Vetoes Bills That Protect Patients Seeking Abortion Care

VICTORY! VA Reproductive Equity Bills have passed through both chambers of the VA legislature. Now what?
The following bills are headed to Governor Youngkin’s desk:
SB238 + HB819: Contraceptive Equity Act: eliminates barriers to receiving contraceptive care
SB716 + HB519: Protect VA Health workers “board of medicine” Bill: prohibits disciplinary action from the Board of Medicine against a doctor based on the alleged provision or receipt of abortion care
SB16 + HB78: Menstrual data privacy: prohibits legal action, i.e. warrant or court order, to procure menstrual data
SB15: Extradition Prohibition, reproductive health services: protects patients who come to VA to receive reproductive healthcare from states with bans
HB1539: extradition prohibition, reproductive health services w/ consumer data privacy protections: protects patients who come to VA to receive reproductive healthcare from states with bans
Update on the Contraceptive Equity Act
On Advocacy Day, January 22nd, we testified for the Contraceptive Equity Act before the VA Senate Commerce and Labor Committee. Representatives from National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice, Repro Rising VA, and Birth in Color all spoke about the need to eliminate barriers to accessing contraceptive care as part of comprehensive Reproductive Justice.
The Virginia Reproductive Equity Alliance Joins Together with Reproductive Freedom Legislative Champions to Introduce a State Constitutional Amendment for Reproductive Freedom
Richmond, Virginia—The Virginia Reproductive Equity Alliance and legislative reproductive freedom champions are introducing a constitutional amendment into the 2023 legislative session. The amendment guarantees that the state cannot deny or interfere with an individual’s reproductive freedom in their most personal decisions, including their fundamental right to abortion care. Taking action now is critical to restoring the protections we lost with the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022.

Sunday, hundreds of people gathered in Norfolk's Lafayette Park to protest the court's ruling and share their own stories in the hopes of helping others understand their view.
